The Purpose

Definition of the project:
This project aims to accomplish a study on the assumption of the lack of social etiquette and cultural understanding of the visitors into China.

Overall plan:
Our research will be focusing on the Chinese etiquette that the Chinese in China have adopted over time. We would then key in the information we have collected into a project portal, created to be a source of information.

Key resources:
Key resources used in this project would be quantitative and qualitative surveys, interviews, relevant books and websites. In the 21st century, it is crucial for youths to be socially and globally aware of various cultures in order to create cross cultural understanding. Thus this provides the primary objective of this site.

Expected learning outcomes:
Students or the public are expected to have a better understanding and appreciation of China culture, customs and social etiquette. This would inevitably avoid conflicts, after reading our project portal. This creates good friendship between both parties, without having any disputes between them.

Evaluation of student work:
After they come back, we can evaluate the results on whether the people who read the project site, who are expected to be more respectful in terms of culture in China, respected the people and culture in China more than those who did not read the project site.

21st century skills students will apply in the project:
From this project, we are expecting not only students to follow our project site, not only to remember what they should do, but also apply it, and also other people who go to China, so that they will act decently and make a good approach to the people there, so that no conflicts are made. Not only 21st century students are expected to follow this, but also the next generations of students, therefore, it somewhat becomes a ‘need’ when going to China, and follow their culture.

Impact on students:
As for the students who to China, they must always keep in mind that they are representing their school and country. Thus, if they do not feel this way and just act the way they want to, they might unintentionally harm the school’s image or the country’s image in the mind of the China people. This will actually cause them to have many different impression and question on the country’s or school’s way of education whether we actually have been taught of being respectful or just only study. Wheres, we may not feel that we were disrespectful as this is how we act, talk and portray ourselves in our country and in our school but within our school community, all of us are tolerant of each other’s wrongdoings but it can actually be hurting or disrespectful to other people overseas.

Impact on world and community (businessmen):
This project will impact the world and community, especially the businessmen as these businessmen are ones who actually cause a great impact to the world’s economy. As China is becoming an economically booming country thus businessman would want to grab this opportunity of earning much more when they can in China. Thus, due to the lack of the China’s cultural understanding, it can actually affect their business in China and also the businessman who deal with China businessman overseas if they do not understand them. They must be able to understand how they feel and the way they react to the actions that they do when interacting with either Chinese customers or colleagues, as they might insult them unknowingly which would cause great dispute or the fall of their business, in order to keep their business going smoothly. This would actually help to maintain good relationship between the Chinese people and these businessman as once conflicts occur, it would affect the whole company, including the workers, the clients and also the suppliers of this company. This would also affect the political relationships between China and other countries, and soon the whole world, when there is such conflicts due to the bad impression of the businessmen from certain countries going to China to start their businesses.
